For more than twenty years, Tom Benoit has visited Ancestral sites on the Colorado Plateau. He photographs well know ones like Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon but concentrates on some of the least accessible, including Fallen Roof, one of ten largely unknown sites featured in this exhibit. It sits on a canyon ledge in the south-eastern Utah mountains, far from any well traveled road, almost completely unseen since the Ancestral Puebloans built and abandoned it 700 years ago.
Benoit carries a large view camera across challenging, sometimes dangerous wilderness, carefully recording, never disturbing, patiently waiting for the right moment. His traditional, pre-digital photography brings the wonder of these sites to life.
There will be an artist's reception on Tuesday, September 13 from 6-8pm.
The exhibit can be seen during Library open hours when the room is not in use.
