Teens in grades 6-12 will write poems with Del Mar teacher, Dana Lomax. The two hours will include famous poets reading their work, incredible music that makes us think about poetry tools, and creative drawing exercises that help us sharpen our word choices. Based on these exercises, we will write a series of poems and share work with each other.
Dana Lomax is a poet and teacher whose most recent work, Kindergarde: Avant-garde Poems, Plays, Stories, and Songs for Children won the 2014 Lion and the Unicorn Prize for Children's Literature sponsored by John Hopkins University Press. She is the author of five books of poems and the winner of numerous Poetry Awards. She served as the Director of Small Press Traffic Literary Arts Center in San Francisco and currently teaches writing at San Francisco State University and Del Mar Middle School.
