Meshcore Workshop

Off-Grid Communication Fundamentals

Sat Mar 14, 2026
11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Founders Room

Learn to build off-grid text networks with MeshCore. This workshop covers setup, hardware, and emergency use for radio aficionados and beginners. No internet or cell service needed.

MeshCore is a lightweight protocol for secure, decentralized text communication using LoRa radio hardware. Unlike ad-hoc mobile networks, MeshCore is designed for stability and permanent infrastructure using repeaters and fixed nodes.

This workshop provides a technical introduction to the MeshCore ecosystem. We will discuss how it differs from Meshtastic, focusing on its routing efficiency and reliability for emergency scenarios.

What we will cover:

  • Hardware Overview: Supported devices including Heltec V3 and LilyGo T-Deck.
  • Firmware Installation: How to flash nodes as companions, repeaters, or room servers.
  • Network Architecture: Planning fixed node placement for maximum coverage.
  • Operational Use: Sending encrypted messages and using store-and-forward features.

What to bring: Participants are encouraged to bring their own LoRa radio hardware, such as Heltec or LilyGo devices. If possible, bring a laptop with a USB-C data cable to practice firmware installation.

This session is for amateur radio operators, emergency prep enthusiasts, and those interested in building resilient community networks. No prior experience with mesh networking is required.
