Speak Up!
Middle School Speech Class
Students in grades 6-8 are invited to sign up for a free class to improve their speaking skills for school presentations and formal speeches.
In this class, impromptu speaking skills will be introduced and students will walk out of the course confident in speaking on the spot on various topics.
High school students will teach middle school students skills, tips, and tricks that can be applied to formal speech structures, classroom discussions and presentations, and everything in between. They will help middle school students develop crucial public speaking skills, lessons that are not always available in school settings.
Student-teachers Ashley Wang, a senior at The Branson School, took speech classes throughout middle school and is a former champion of the Marin County Margie Burke Speech Tournament. Keo Robinson, a junior at Marin Academy, competed in the Margie Burke Speech Tournament, earning several awards, including the 2nd Place Overall Champion in 8th grade and is the co-creator and co-lead of the Debate Team at Marin Academy.
The one-hour class will be held on four Saturday afternoons at the Library. Students should attend all sessions. There will be a snack/restroom break halfway through the hour.
